Despite the weeks of rain hitting Tennessee so far this year the management at Crossville Raceway Inc., Crossville, Tn. have decided to make every effort to run the remaining open practice Sunday. The track is still pretty wet and it may not be too pretty, but we are gonna give these guys a place to get their cars dirty.
A pending sale of the track did not materialize after months of negotiations and those efforts left the track weeks behind in preparation for 2008 but we are working diligently to get it up and running. A new truck was delivered to the track this week and will be outfitted ASAP as the new water truck. A replacement grader arrived a couple of weeks ago, repairs are in progress in the area of turn one where water run off from the pits has caused some problems with the track surface. Those repairs are expected to be completed before the season opener on Friday April 11.
The track is in need of new clay and we are aware of that, but as Promoter William Scogin explained, “We need to address the access ramps between the pits and the track. Those both have a lot of rocks and we can’t fix the rock problem on the track till we fix those ramps. The ramp in turn one has been graded and we have had drainage work done there, with a retaining wall to hold the water off the track to be finished this week.”
Weather permitting, the track should have several loads of new clay brought in over the next month and the entire track resurfaced to make for better racing. Clean up and repairs have been ongoing for several weeks as we attempt to get this facility up to the stature it deserves.
In an attempt to make this happen sooner we are seeking sponsors and advertisers for the track with signage, displays and race sponsorship opportunities.
