Clint Bowyer topped the Saturday morning practice chart with a time of 28.659 seconds behind the wheel of his No. 15 Sour Apple Extra Strength 5-hour Energy Toyota. Looking for his first Texas Motor Speedway win, Bowyer will start 26th tomorrow afternoon.
Kyle Busch was second quickest at a lap of 28.67 seconds after qualifying fifth.
Defending series champion Brad Keselowski was third followed by Martin Truex Jr. and Greg Biffle.
Jimmie Johnson, who currently sits second in points tied with points leader Matt Kenseth, timed in sixth quickest. Johnson will start Sunday’s race from the third position as he looks for his third Texas win.
Kurt Busch was seventh quickest, followed by Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola.
Points leader Matt Kenseth was 15th quickest in practice after qualifying sixth.
