Sam Hornish Jr turns up the pressure on his competition for championship weekend. Hornish was fast in practice, and now fast in qualifying. Hornish scores the pole for the Ford Ecoboost 300 at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
The pole in Hornish’s fourth of the season, and fifth of his career. He posted a lap of 165.843 MPH in the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Ford Mustang.
Austin Dillon, who leads Hornish by a mere eight points, will take the green on 11th spot. Dillon turned in a lap of 163.825 MPH in the No. 3 AdvoCare Chevrolet.
In addition to the driver’s championship, Hornish’s team, Penske Racing, is also in contention for the owner’s title. Currently, Penske’s No. 22 Hertz Ford is four points ahead of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 54 driven this week by Kyle Busch.
Penske driver, Brad Keselowski, has also entered this weekend in the No. 48 Discount Ford, to assist his team in securing both titles. Will Brad “take-out” the competition? Probably not. He can, however, make it very difficult for Dillon and Busch any time he is near them on a racetrack.
The Ford Ecoboost 300 should prove to be every bit as exciting as Friday night’s Camping World Truck Series race. The green will fall at 4:30 pm. Let the drama begin!
