Last year, Scott McTeer had a killer season at Sauble Speedway, scoring seven feature victories on the way to winning the championship.
“We’re lucky to have Burt McColl help us so much,” McTeer said. “We did struggle our first six races and then stumbled upon a good set-up, which we are still using.”
It marks the second championship in a row for the driver of the No. 49 Lake Huron Rod & Gun, SecretsOfTuscany.com, Expressway Trucks and Carey Optical Late Model.
“2012 was a lot more consistent and the points were tighter,” he commented. “We were way off the first three nights, and then figured the set-up out and was able to win four in a row mid-summer.”
With two championships in three years of late model competition, some have dubbed McTeer as “Mr. Sauble”.
“We talked about running with the lights off a few times but then thought it may not be a good idea,” he joked.
Heading into the new season, McTeer will return to Sauble in hopes of a third championship in a row. He also will do some of the invitationals over the year as he hopes to figure out Sunset Speedway, wanting to be able to run strong against Sunset’s tough Late Model field that includes 30-time champion Tom Walters.
For his success in 2013, McTeer was ranked ninth on the Inside Track Year End Power Rankings presented by London Recreational.
