UXBRIDGE, ON- Road course veteran turned journalist Russ Bond will make his first career NCATS start at May 18th’s Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
A versatile chauffeur, Bond has enjoyed a number of road course triumphs, including a runner-up in the 1996 Toyota Atlantic c2 Championship and a pair of podium finishes with the 2010 Canadian Touring Car Championships. Still, Bond is quick to note the NCATS cars are radically different from anything he’s driven.
“This is a whole other world”, laughed Bond at last week’s NCATS test session. “I’ve had my fair share of laps around [Canadian Tire Motorsport Park], but I’ve never experienced anything like that. These cars are a great deal heavier than anything I’ve ever raced. It really changes the way you attack the racetrack”
Bond will field a car prepared by Micks Motorsports, with primary marketing support from www.DoorDoctor.com
“This is such a cool opportunity”, grinned the host of ‘The 2-Minute Test Drive’ on Motoring TV. “I’ve always wanted to compete in a NASCAR road course race. I have to thank Door Doctor for what I’m sure will be a fantastic weekend”
“Kerry Micks and his team have been awesome at getting me set up for this race”, continues Bond. “I can’t imagine how tough it would be approaching an NCATS event without a coach like Kerry. He’s been a huge help in getting me prepared and letting me know what to expect”
In addition to approaching the weekend from a competitor’s standpoint, Bond will also be gathering content for an upcoming episode of Motoring 2014 on TSN.
“I think it’s great that Motoring 2014 on TSN is filming this for a segment on an upcoming show”, said Bond. “I really enjoy being a part of the Motoring team, and I’m sure we can get some fantastic ‘behind-the-scenes’ content to show our viewers what it’s like being a part of an NCATS event”
Bond’s efforts at the Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 will be made possible thanks to DoorDoctor.com and Motoring 2014 on TSN.
The Pinty’s presents the Clarington 200 is scheduled for May 18th at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. Gate times and ticket prices can be found at www.CanadianTireMotorsportPark.com.
