Tanner Foust, No. 34 Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen Polo
• Qualified third overall during seeding session – placing Foust at the front of the pack in Heat 1C
• Foust finished the day P1 in his Heat
” Not a bad way for the Rockstar Energy Drink Volkswagen to come out in the first race day, it’s very cool. Scott (Speed) qualified very well, he qualified second overall and I was third. I think the Volkswagen Polo proving, that even though we’re working with a somewhat older engine package, that the racing smarts of Volkswagen Motorsport and Andretti together are really maximizing the chassis better than the other guys, so we’re able to take advantage of what the Polo is good at. Today was just a matter of survival and tomorrow is where it really counts.”
Scott Speed, No. 77 7UP Volkswagen Polo
• Speed qualified P2 during seeding session
• After finishing P2 in his heat, Speed was awarded first place after a penalty was issued to the No. 43 car
“Today was awesome; we clearly have a ton of speed in our 7UP Volkswagen, so that’s great off the start because we’re just going to continue to build off of that speed moving forward in the year. I think we have a solid setup going into tomorrow’s race; I’m looking forward to it. Without any instances on-track during the heats tomorrow, I think we’ll have a good shot at going for the win.”
