(Lucan ON) |Team Champion driver Trevor Collver made the trip down the highway to kick off his 2014 season at Hamilton’s Concrete Arena Flamboro Speedway. In preparation of the Home and Home series later in the season, Collver loaded up the Champion Spark Plugs, Carter Trucking Camaro in an effort to learn and build a note book for the three events on his Championship schedule.
Collver, making his first ever start in his new chassis and his very first visit to the track, lined up at the rear of the heat race full of the hot shoes of Flamboro Speedway. In the opening laps, the second place car got out of shape, stacking up the field and the front four cars were able to break away. Collver made his way to the fifth spot but ran out of time trying to catch the foursome and settled in there for the finish.
After some quick adjustments, the #1 Champion Spark Plugs/Carter Trucking Camaro was set for the 25 lap feature race. Starting 10th, Collver methodically worked his way inside the top 6 and battled hard with the cars ahead to work his way to the inside of the top 5 right around the half way point. The hard work was just beginning, as the 3rd and 4thplace cars started some monkey business and were bouncing off each other, and quickly were right on the front nose of Collvers white Camaro. Contact with all three drivers sent the 3rd place car spinning. Collver was placed at the rear of the field for the ensuing restart.
Once again Collver was looking at an entire field of cars in his windshield and it was time to go to work. As the laps were winding down, Collver managed to get himself inside the top ten and battling for the 6th spot when a right rear tire went down, and relegated Collver pit side for repairs. When the checkers flew, Collver was credited with a 10th place finish.
At the end of the night, the Team Champion driver left Flamboro Speedway with some good notes to build on for the Delaware/Flamboro Home and Home series first official event on June 28. After the race, Collver reported that you have to be willing to use the bumper just a bit to make moves and will work on getting his car to come off the corners a bit stronger when they come back next time. The team felt they needed to get a good handle on this speedway before they return three more times later this summer. It was a solid outing in Collvers first competitive laps in the new Super Stock, and at a track that he had never seen until he arrived.
