Anytime Gary McLean straps behind the wheel of a modified, he’s a threat to win. The theory played super true on Friday night as Gary McLean won both Open-Wheel Modified features at Full Throttle Motor Speedway.
For the first feature, it’d be Gary Elliott drawing pole ahead of Gary McLean, Brian McLean, Brent McLean, Jacob Robb, John Karley and Paul Milligan. On the drop of the green, Gary McLean would grab the lead ahead of Elliott. Elliott would then slip back to third by lap three after being passed by Brent McLean. The field would run, for the majority except for lap traffic, single-file till a caution just past halfway for debris.
Once the green flag was back in the air, it’d be all Gary McLean at the front as he’d lead the rest of the way to claim the victory ahead of Brent McLean, Paul Milligan, Gary Elliott, Brian McLean, Jacob Robb and John Karley.
In the second feature of the night, Brent McLean would start on pole ahead of Brian McLean, Gary McLean, Paul Milligan, Gary Elliott, John Karley and Jacob Robb. Brent would grab the early lead as Brian and Gary battled for second. Gary would clear Brian to take second. Gary then tracked down his nephew Brent for the lead, getting alongside. The pair would battle back and forth for awhile with Gary eventually grabbing the lead before the caution flew with two to go for Robb losing the tire and hitting the turn three wall; Robb would be okay.
On the restart, it’d be Brent McLean grabbing the lead down the frontstretch and leading the final two laps to cross the checkered flag first. However, upon further review, track officials would strip Brent of the win for jumping the final restart. As a result, Gary McLean got the victory, followed by Paul Milligan, Brian McLean, Gary Elliott, John Karley, Brent McLean and Jacob Robb.
