We were scheduled to be racing at Sauble Speedway on July 26th but the races were cancelled due to rain and rescheduled for July 27th.
We found out a noon that the races were cancelled in Sauble, so our team decided to go to Flamboro Speedway because it was close by and it gave us another opportunity to show case our sponsors and support the local race track.
Our Late Model was cleaned and waiting to head to Sauble Speedway for 2 shows and a mid week race on July 30th, but we just had to go to Flamboro and race with David, my son, who has been doing very well at Flamboro.
We were able to watch the rest of the race and David got up to 2nd place in the Quaker State Pro Late Model, but his hood flew up with 3 laps to go. He tried racing with the hood up. He held on to 2nd for a lap until another car spun out bringing out the yellow. David hustled to the pits to get the hood secured, and returned to the track. Unfortunately he had to go to the back, and with only 2 laps to go, could only get back up to 10th place.
Our strategy was to take it easy for this event because we had to leave early Tuesday to head to Sauble Speedway for a show on the Beach and then another show on Wednesday at the Quaker State Quik Lube in Owen Sound.
There was a driver introduction prior to the start of the 100 lap race. David qualified 3rd and we qualified 15th. Unfortunately for us the day ended quickly when our engine blew up on lap 10. It was lucky the car did not spin out or get wrecked by the oil on the track. I was able to drive back to the pits, and it was there we saw the connecting rod through the oil pan and block.
Meanwhile I put out an emergency request by texting some friends and got a response within 20 minutes of my urgent call. An engine was available for me to use. The owner of the engine lived close to Sauble Speedway making it easy to pick it up on the way to the races Sunday morning.
I was disappointed the engine blew up, but glad it happened when it did so we could have the car ready for the Dash for Cash in the Late Model at Sauble Speedway on Wednesday July 30th.
