The four car – Spira/Lucas Oil race team split up equally with Jake and Samantha heading to Sunset, where they participated in the fan appreciation night and Billy and Scott heading north to Sauble Speedway. Joining Scott and Billy was crew member Steve Laking, who would be running his late model in a 150 lap invitational.
Scott and Billy were both in the first heat race where Scott started 3rd, finished 5th and Billy started 5th and finished 2nd.At Sunset Speedway, Jake and Sam were also in the same heat race where Sam won and Jake finished 6th. Billy started 6th in his next heat race as Scott was moved to the last heat. In Billy’s race, he was running for the lead with the #71, however the #71 would make contact down the backstretch and cut down the right rear tire of the #86, sending Billy into the infield for the remainder of the race. Scott started 5th and although he fell back to 7th, regained three positions to finish 4th. Samantha started on the front row for the dash for cash and maintained the position for the win and Jake ran the consi, where he started 5th and finished 2nd despite the right front tire going flat from the halfway point.
Sunset Speedway: Jake started in the pole position for the feature beside Samantha who started beside him in second. Sam ran away from the field throughout the entire race and then a caution came out just before she crossed the line on the last lap for the win. The track went back a lap to set up a green, white, checker finish with Samantha and the #72 in the front row and the #64 3rd. The #64 got a good run on the inside lane and with it, received the win, putting Samantha 2nd and Jake would finish in the top 10 with a 9th place finish. The top three would have their cylinder heads removed during post race inspection and all three were deemed to be running legal.
Sauble Speedway: Scott and Billy would start deep in the field in 10th and 8th. Billy moved up to 5th by lap 5 and Scott also gained positions and was running 7th. The #17 was running well ahead of the field up front, followed by the #1, #71 and #36, and then there was a gap to Billy, who was well behind the top four by the time he finally cleared traffic. After the half way point, Billy caught up to the #36 and moved into 4th as Scott remained 7th. The running order remained unchanged with only one lap remaining and then like at Sunset, there was a caution on the last lap that should have brought a green, white, checkered finish, however the track announced that they would throw the green and white together and then the checkered, for a one lap bonsai run to the finish. Scott restarted 7th and Billy was 4th for the final lap that could have been a recipe for disaster as one lap would not be enough time to sort out the field as everyone went four wide to bump and bang for the win. Although the #17 was obviously the fastest car of the night as like Samantha, he ran all laps to that point at the front of the field, the last lap format, that has never been experienced before, robbed him of the win and the win went to the #71 followed by the #17, #1, Billy in 4th and Scott in 7th.
Steve Laking ran a great race in the 150 lap Late Model event with team mate, Scott Simmons doing the spotting for him as Ken had lost his voice throughout the day for some reason. Steve had the lead near the end of the feature, however contact with a lapped car upset the handling through the final laps to allow the #83 and #21 to get by him and Steve would bring the damaged #44 machine home 3rd.
