September 18th Race #31
This was our 31st night racing in 2014, a busy but successful season to date. Things were looking good for our team for this mid week, 125 lap Invitational at Sunset Speedway. However things became hectic trying to get to the track on time, and with such an incredible field of cars we failed to make the big event, even though we tried our best to get into this race.
We had prepared our car during the week and the scaling and set up looked good. The issue wasn’t that, it was not getting to the track early enough to practice and adjust the car. We have always been ready, but missed the mark on this day.
Time trials determined the first 12 qualifiers with the remainder of cars coming out of the 10 lap last chance. We had problems in the last chance race that were easy to fix, but we were not granted the opportunity because the track format and policy of this race was different than in previous shows where all cars qualified. But on this day only 24 made it of 28.
We watched the big race. Our car was sitting alone in the pits. I promised my crew and sponsors that attended, we would not be arriving late for races anymore. It was the first time in 32 years that we missed a feature with a healthy car. It will also be the last time this happens, we all agreed to be more diligent, prepared and on time in the future. The boys and I were okay, though discouraged. We’ll get them next time.
