Athenian Motosrports, LLC announced on Friday, November 21st that they will field a Chevrolet Camaro full-time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (formally Nationwide Series) and a Chevrolet Silverado in all 23 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events in 2015, with engines provided by Hendrick Motorsports.
The team also announced that John Wes Townley will run all the truck races for AMS, as well as a partial schedule in the Xfinity Series.
“I can’t wait to get to Daytona in February,” Townley said. “I had a chance at the end of the 2014 season to work with my new crew chiefs. I think that time together is going to pay off big-time for us at the beginning of the new season.”
Crew chiefs Mike Ford and Michael Shelton will in charge of calling the shots, with Ford at the Xfinity level and Shelton in the Truck Series. Ford in a multi-race winning crew chief in Sprint Cup, while Shelton led James Buescher to his Truck championship in 2012.
“Between the all-star lineup of talent we have put together, the new facility we’ll be working out next year and the fact that we will have access to the horsepower from the same company that produced the engines for this year’s Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series champions, I’m confident the pieces are in place for John Wes to have a breakthrough season in 2015,” Athenian Motorsports vice president of operations Mike Hamlin said.
AMS added that they will announce who will fill-in the Xfinity races that Townley can’t run at a later date.
