For the 12th consecutive year in a row, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has been named the Sprint NMPA Most Popular Driver Award.
“I want to thank the National Motorsports Press Assocation and Sprint,” Earnhardt said. “I’d get up in the morning and my (twitter) timeline is just full of these fans. That was probably the most humbling experience to see these people putting that effort in.”
Earnhardt holds the record for the longest streak with consecutive Most Popular Driver Awards. Bill Elliott still holds the record for the most total, with 16. Earnhardt also had a successful season on track this year, winning four races and scoring 12 top-five finishes.
“I can’t thank you guys enough for what y’all do,” Earnhardt added. “When we had our bad weeks, y’all picked us back up, and when we won, we all celebrated together. So, thank you guys.”
