The Motorsports Group announced on Wednesday, January 21st that Ron Hornaday will drive the No. 30 TMG Chevrolet for the full 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season, starting off with the Daytona 500 next month.
“We are glad to have Ron Hornaday come on board with The Motorsports Group. Ron has been involved in the NASCAR industry for over 20 years now,” team owner Curtis Key commented. “His experience and knowledge of the industry is exactly what we need this first year in the Sprint Cup Series.”
Hornaday is a NASCAR veteran, having accumulated four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championships to go with a combined 55 wins across NASCAR’s top three series. Hornaday ran the Truck schedule for Turner-Scott Motorsports for the first half of the season, before losing the ride due to an owner dispute.
“I am happy to be signing on with Curtis Key and the entire TMG organization for the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Season,” Hornaday said. “This team has been working really hard during the offseason to get cars ready for Daytona and the rest of the season. I’m hoping to bring some guidance and racing knowledge to this start up Cup team.”
This will mark TMG’s first Sprint Cup Series effort after fielding cars in the NASCAR XFINITY Series over the past 13 years, scoring a top-five and seven top-10s in 439 races.
TMG added that they are still looking to secure sponsorship, with announcements coming in the following weeks.
