Garrett Smithley will be returning to his old stomping grounds at the Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) this weekend to make his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) in the #63 HEROBOX.org Chevy Silverado. The 22 year old first started his racing career at AMS behind the wheel of a Bandolero, followed by Legend cars, just down the road from his hometown in Peachtree City, GA.
Not only is Garrett a ‘local’, his partner for the race, HEROBOX.org also is based in Peachtree City, only 25 miles from the speedway. Thrilled to be making his NCWTS debut Garrett commented “It means so much to launch my NASCAR career right where it all started over 7 years ago. Competing in my first Bandolero races on the 1/4 mile oval, I never dreamed I would have the chance to come home to Atlanta Motor Speedway for my first NASCAR Truck Series race. It’s all very surreal!”
HEROBOX.org CEO Ryan Housley noted enthusiastically, “HEROBOX.org is very proud to partner with Garrett Smithley as he makes his NASCAR debut in the Camping World Truck Series. Garrett is an avid supporter of our troops and we are honored to consider him an ambassador for our organization. His support for us carrying our banners in the ARCA series at Pocono and Kentucky was just great. We hope many will join us in supporting Garrett as he raises awareness for our military veterans in the #63 HEROBOX.org Chevrolet!”
Garrett Smithley kicked-off his 2015 racing season by making his first start at Daytona International Speedway, driving the #10 Enduring Gratitude Ford in the ARCA Racing Series. Enduring Gratitude is another military veteran and active duty support organization. “Racing at Daytona was amazing, but now I have the opportunity to make my NASCAR Truck series debut at my home track. It’s even better that HEROBOX.org, a 501c3 non-profit organization supporting military programs based in my hometown will be on the truck. All the stars aligned to make this weekend happen and I am just thrilled right now!” Smithley added.
In addition to HEROBOX.org appearing on Smithley’s #63 Mittler Brothers Chevy Silverado he continues his growing associations with SegPay, MUVI/Veho and Enduring Gratitude. “The truck will be presented in full military camouflage green to represent HEROBOX.org and all that they do to help serve this country’s active duty men and women as well as veterans of our armed forces” continued Smithley. “I am so proud and honored to be in a position to create awareness for such a worthy cause.”
HEROBOX.org will invite 15 veterans from the Atlanta area to the Atlanta Motor Speedway as their special VIP guests to see Garrett Smithley in action at the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race.
The Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 will air live on Fox Sports 1 at 5:30pm EST Saturday, with practice on Friday 27th at 2:30 pm and qualifying the following morning at 10:30 am. The race will also be broadcast live via SIRIUS XM channel 90 and MRN Radio, the Motor Racing Network.
