HAYLEY FINISHES 11TH IN MARTINSVILLE SPEEDWAY DEBUT
Martinsville, Va. (March 29, 2015) – Cameron Hayley, driver of the No. 13 Cabinets by Hayley Toyota Tundra, made his debut at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Kroger 250, scoring an 11th-place finish. The Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender showed off his short-track racing prowess as the fastest Toyota Tundra driver in the lone practice session on Friday and followed the performance up with a third-place qualifying effort for his first short track start of the 2015 NCWTS season on Saturday morning.
From the drop of the green flag, Hayley reported that his No. 13 Toyota Tundra was “loose off the corners,” of the half-mile Virginia short track and fell outside of the top-five by lap 15. Crew chief Jeff Hensley brought the Canadian driver down pit road twice during the 250-lap event for four tires and fuel, including adjustments, to aid in the handling. Just after the lap 179 restart, Hayley reported that his Tundra was “solid” after adjustments.
Hayley maintained a position inside the top-five, running fourth, until the ninth and final caution flag of the afternoon was displayed at lap 250 for a spin by the 00 on the frontstretch, sending the race into overtime. Unfortunately, Hayley got hung on the outside, sliding into the wall, on the final restart, relegating the rookie driver to an 11th-place finish in the Kroger 250.
Quote – Cameron Hayley:
“We got dive-bombed on that last restart three times being on the outside, and then we hit the wall at the end. Everyone says Martinsville is frustrating but until you race here, you really don’t know how hard it is to finish 11th. It’s disappointing; we had a strong run in the top-five all day.”
