By Randy Spencer – With just two weeks to go until the first cars hit the track, I wanted to take a closer look at the 2015 schedule at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway. This year there has been some changes and it should add some excitement.
Perhaps the biggest change will be the race format for each night. Heat races will no longer be run on a weekly basis. Double features for each regular division will now take place. If you still like to see the traditional ten lap heat races you still will be able to as this change only affects the regular weekly divisions at Flamboro. (Late Models, Thunder Cars, Mini Stocks, Pro Fours & Pure Stocks) All visiting or traveling clubs will run their own program which for the most part includes heat races for qualifying. For racers, you will draw each night for qualifying position in the first feature. The second feature will be a complete inversion with exception of the non finishers from the first feature. Payoffs and points for each race will be separate. An overall Feature winner for each division will be determined each race night and this must include at least one feature win to be eligible. If you have any questions please contact John Casale at the track.
Things get underway April 18th with the annual Practice Day and Swap Meet. Opening night is one week later with a Mini Stock and Thunder Car Invitational. Pro Fours and Pure Stocks are also on hand. The first of five, “Spectator Drags” (King of the Hill) takes place. The Pro Late Models make their first appearance of the year on May 9th along with the Ontario Pro Challenge season opener. The Canadian Vintage Modifeds open their 49th season on May 16th while the Can Am Midgets open season #50 the following week. May 30th is OSCAAR Night as the Super Late Models, Modifieds and Hurricane Midgets make a return to Flamboro after a few years away. This years is OSCAAR’s 25th anniversary. June 6th sees the first of two APC United Late Model Series at Flamboro. An eight race schedule is proving so far to be a very popular series as many veterans and some new drivers moving up from other series for this exciting Late Model series. The first of two Sportsman Cup Series races takes place June 27th. Kids Ride Night is August 1st and the Don Biederman Memorial for OSCAAR Super Late Models returns to Flamboro August 29th. The Pro Fours are having their Memorial Night July 4th and the Flamboro Stadium & Speedway Hall of Fame is planning a night bringing back all living members of the 25 inductees for a special night later in the season.
The first of two Flamboro Enduro’s take place with a 250 lap race on September 7th. A $12,000 purse is up for grabs with $6,000 to the winner. The second one closes the season on October 25th with a 200 lap event, with an $8,000 purse and $4,000 to the winner. A demo derby will follow. The annual Flamboro Speedway Memorial Night takes place September 12th and Championship Night is September 26th.
The other big change takes place for the Oktoberfest Classic. This year, in case you noticed I haven’t mentioned it yet, the Grisdale Triple Crown Late Model series will go from a three separate night event spread out during the season to a Triple 50 at Oktoberfest. Also the Classic is scheduled for Friday and Saturday this year with Sunday as the rain date. The final race event of 2015 is Frostfest presented by London Recreational Racing on October 17th.
