Entering his third season of competition at Sunset Speedway, Nick Tooley is looking to have a solid season in continuing to make his way closer to the front of the field.
“It’s been going good so far,” he commented. “We’ve had our ups and downs. Other than that, we’ve been working on the car and by the end of this season, we will definitely be up there.”
He kicked off the season on a good note, posting a ninth place finish in the first feature of the season. The positive run gave the driver of the No. 82 X-Copper, Suter’s Auto Service, Roddon Tire, Simcoe Mobile Wash, Kirby and Sara’s Tasty Pastries entry confidence that he was going to have a decent season. However, the second night, things didn’t go as well as hoped with the engine blowing during the qualifying heats.
“When we blew the motor second night, basically all we said was we’re going to have some fun and whatever happens, happens,” Tooley said. “Basically, the goal for this year is to go out, have some fun and get wins.”
With each season of competition, he has continued to improve and found himself within the top-10 on a weekly basis during the second half of last season. The effort is thanks to a combination of continuing to get the car stronger, but also continuing to learn as a driver with lessons learned throughout.
“Biggest thing I learned last year was not to be afraid, rubbing is racing, and as long as you hold your lane, that’s all that matters,” he said.
