Race #3 May 29th
We raced Friday night at Full Throttle Speedway, this time driving a 1988 Monte Carlo. It was just a shake down to see what we will need to make it competitive.
During our first practice, which was the first time the car had been on the track in 2 years, resulted in the engine cutting out. We found the foam in the fuel cell had come apart and was being sucked through the line into the carburetor. The repair consumed all the rest of our practice time but our Quaker State team succeeded in removing all the foam and installing a fuel filter. We flushed the fuel lines and reset the carburetor making sure all the pieces were removed. It got us by until the fuel cell can be removed and completely cleaned next week.
Once we fixed the fuel problem we were good to go. We didn’t get anymore hot laps, but I was okay with that, because tonight was just a shake down until we come back in two weeks. So our main goal was to get through the night without doing any damage and we succeeded.
We hope to have this car painted with a nostalgic NASCAR scheme very soon. It will look awesome when it’s done.
Our next race is Friday June 5th at Full Throttle Speedway in our Quaker State Late Model.
