With a late race pass, Robin McLean would snatch up the lead in the Signs of Orangeville OSCAAR Midget feature to score his first feature victory of the season.
The night didn’t start off how Brian Woodland wanted as he would stall during the first heat of the night. McLean picked up the win ahead of Jim Rodgers, James Stanley, Rob McCall, Brian McDonald, Lorne Van Dusen, David Gallinger, Raynor Vickers and Kevin Spiez.
When it came to the second heat, Bob Ross didn’t even get to start the event as a result of mechanical problems. Paul Dermo would go for a quick spin on lap two, but there’d be no caution as he was able to keep going. Hoosier Spring Velocity winner Jamie Bound picked up the win ahead of Richard Woodland, Jessica James, James Rodgers, Ryan Brown, Wayne McKibbon, Dermo and Larry Lawson.
Jody Bound would win heat three ahead of Paul Draganac, Mike McLaughlin, Adam Carrothers, Dave Bradley, Shawn Stanley, the 00 and Katherine Summers.
The fourth heat saw a quick caution at lap five for Jim Rodgers going around in turn three. Richard Woodland went on to pick up the victory ahead of Brian Woodland, Van Dusen, Gallinger, Jim Rodgers, Ross, James Rodgers, Spiez and Wayne MiKibbon.
Jamie Bound went for the daily double, winning the fifth heat ahead of Carrothers, Shawn Stanley, Bradley, Dermo, Brown and Deacon.
McLean won the final heat for the daily double, winning the final heat ahead of Jody Bound, Draganac, McLaughlin, McCall, McDonald, James Stanley, Vickers, the 00 and Summers.
As a result of having more cars in the pits than a feature allows, the midgets would run a b-main to set the back end of the field for the feature. Summers was set to run the event, but wasn’t able to as a result of mechanical issues. Ross also didn’t have the b-main that he wanted, going around in turn four on the opening lap. James Rodgers went on to grab the victory ahead of Spiez, McKibbon, Deacon, Wally Wilson and Vickers.
When it came to the feature, Jamie Bound would jump out to the early lead ahead of the field and looked to be on the way to his third straight Sunset Speedway victory. Unfortunately for Bound, that wouldn’t be the case as on lap 12, the right front hub would break.
Jamie’s problem would allow rookie Jody Bound to inherit the lead. He looked set to score his first win after showing speed thus far this season. Those as the laps closed in the race, Robin McLean ran him down and made the pass, snatching up the lead.
Robin McLean then led the rest of the way, scoring the victory and a hat trick on the night. Jody Bound finished second, ahead of Adam Carrothers, Jim Rodgers and Richard Woodland.
The Midgets will return to action on June 13 at Full Throttle Motor Speedway, joined by the Hoosier OSCAAR Modifieds.
