LUCAMA, NC – Southern National Motorsports Park will crown its track champions on a Sunday afternoon for the second consecutive year.
With rain being forecast as a virtual certainty for Saturday night, Southern National Motorsports Park has decided to postpone the championship showdown to Sunday afternoon, making the event the second Sunday afternoon race of the year.
“With it being championship night and at best a 50% chance of rain, Michael Diaz and I think it’s in the best interest of the competitors and fans to move the race to Sunday,” said track promoter Langley Austin.
Five track champions will be crowned on Sunday. Uncertainty surrounds who will win the championship in four of those five divisions. Championship races in the Late Model, Charger, U-CAR and Bandoleros divisions find the top challengers separated by five or fewer points with the headline division, the Late Models, entering Sunday’s race in a dead heat.
“Champions night means a lot to the competitors,” Austin remarked. “We want them to celebrate their championships without having to pause in between races and sit there all day and night in the wet. Sunday will give us the best opportunity to do so.”
The green flag on Sunday’s races will wave at 3pm.
