DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Due to impending severe weather expected to hit North Carolina later this week, NASCAR and officials at Hickory Motor Speedway have preemptively moved the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour race to Sunday, Oct. 4.
The MTP Tire 150 was originally scheduled for the North Carolina track on Saturday. The schedule for Sunday is still being finalized; NASCAR and track officials will continue to monitor the weather situation and make updates accordingly.
The race is the 10th in an 11-race schedule, and defending series champion Andy Suess leads brothers Burt and Jason Myers by 10 points apiece. Four-time champion George Brunnhoelzl III is just 13 points out of the lead and won the race at Hickory in 2011, the last time the tour visited the .363-mile oval.
Following the Hickory event, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will conclude the season on Thursday, Oct. 8 on the front stretch quarter-mile at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
