Back in August, Rick Walt had a great night with a dominating performance at Peterborough Speedway, scoring the victory at the Chase for the Colors. Notably, if you win the Chase, you get to start the Autumn Colours Classic from the pole.
Though between then and now, things have changed leading to Walt bringing a different car back now in October for the classic.
“I’m just looking forward to the race,” he commented. “It’s a race that I’ve always wanted to win. I’ve been close many times.”
For this weekend, Walt will be behind the wheel of a Dwayne Baker-owned ride that Baker drove to the victory in the Classic in 2013. Walt said discussions came about renting the ride when they heard Baker would not be running his limited late, but rather his pro late model.
“He asked if I wanted to run this,” Walt recalled. “We then got talking about a rent-to-ride program and it came together.”
For Walt, it’d mark the perfect cap on a season that saw some highs and lows, highlighted by a pair of wins at Peterborough and some top-five finishes at Sunset Speedway.
“It’s been up and down,” he commented of his season. “We’ve had fast cars, been bitten by some bad luck a lot. Hopefully we can end it on a high.”
