In a move to showcase the youngsters from across Ontario, Peterborough Speedway officials put together the “Younggun Showcase”, which is meant to showcase drivers under the age of 25. One of the division stand-outs and 2011 Sunset Speedway Champion Lane Zardo would enter the event driving a car owned by Ken Grubb, leading all the laps en route to scoring the victory.
The line-up for the 20-lap event would be set by a pill draw. Brandon Feeney, driving Tom Podd’s car, would start pole ahead of Zardo, Jade Franklin, DJ Christie, Anthony DiBello driving Rob Richard’s car, Ryan Babin driving Donny Beatty’s car, Matt Bentley, Coltin Everingham, Jager McMaster, Jaymee Adams, Chad Corcoran driving Kevin Gallant’s car and Billy Zardo driving Brent Wheller’s car.
On the drop of the green flag, Lane Zardo would take the lead ahead of Christie as Franklin and DiBello battled side-by-side for third. DiBello would then move into second on lap two ahead of Franklin and Christie. DiBello would then get sideways on lap four, which allowed Matt Bentley to move up into second ahead of Franklin.
At the front of the field, though, the whole race belonged to Lane Zardo as he led the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory ahead of Matt Bentley and Chad Corcoran. Billy Zardo finished fourth as the first car one lap down ahead of Coltin Everingham, DJ Christie, Anthony DiBello, Ryan Babin, Jaymee Adams and Brandon Feeney. Jade Franklin would fail to finish after pitting with five laps to go due to breaking a clutch.
