The 48th Annual Snowball Derby is in the books. The annual event held at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fl, attracts the biggest names in racing. For Marietta, Ga, driver, Kyle Plott, it provides a chance to showcase his talent in an event that attracts national attention.
The weekend started off well with impressive runs in practice giving Plott a high level of confidence heading into what is arguably the biggest race of the season for Late Model Stock Cars. In qualifying, Plott’s first lap was fast, setting him up for a quick second lap. After slightly clipping the apron, however, he ended up with a 24th place starting spot. While it wasn’t what Plott had hoped for, he was solidly in the show.
In the main event, Plott indicated to the crew that the car was “a little free off” and lack forward bite. During the first round of pit stops, quick work by the crew allowed Plott to pick up six spots.
Bad luck struck on the restart when Plott noticed the car was severely loose on entry. The condition was bad enough that Plott felt as if he had a right rear tire going down. The problem became apparent a few laps later when something broke in the rear end bringing an end to the day.
“I am very proud of my team for getting me in one of the largest Late Model races of the year, but I had a lot higher expectations.”, said a disappointed Plot after the race.
While his 29th place finish was not the results he had hoped for. Plott proved once again that he can run with top caliber racers from around the country. If not for a mechanical failure, the results would have been much more positive.
