As part of the Inside Track Short Track Night of Champions presented by Stoneridge Insurance, a pair of asphalt touring champions were honored for their accomplishments.
Mack DeMan was honored as the Lucas Oil TQ Can-Am Midget Champion.
“We had a good year,” he commented. “Consistency is key, and preparation is what makes it happen.”
DeMan has been dominating in the midget ranks over the years, picking up a couple championships along the way. This past season could be his last year as the series championship, due to a conflict between the Can-Am Midget and Ohsweken Speedway Crate Sprint Car schedule.
“Good chance as if I’m anywhere near the top of the points in the Crate Sprints because that’s my priority this season,” he commented. “Might have to give up this championship for the dirt side.”
Nick Ledson was honored as the Ontario Legends Series Champion for the second straight season in a row.
“It was really looking really slim that we’d come back here,” he commented. “We were down 70 points going into the last month of racing and we just won every heat we could, every feature that we could. I think we found a turning point where we were sitting in the shop and said we had to figure something out. We tore it apart. We found the speed in the end, and here we are.”
Ledson added that you don’t notice how much the little points mean till the end of the year.
“Beginning of the year you’ll say there’s some fast guys in your heat so you may ride around at the back so I don’t tear myself up and then coming towards the end, we were battling for heat points in those races,” he stated. “You don’t notice it.”
