After a strong season in the Mighty Mini division last year, Cameron McGlashan will return to the Innisfil, Ontario oval once again.
Moving up to the Mini Stock division, hopes are high to keep the success rolling.
“Just going to go out and do what we did last year – bide our time and have some fun with it,” he commented. “The car feels pretty good and I have no expectations for this year. If we run good, we run good and if we don’t, we’ll be working on it.”
Knowing that he’ll be racing a mix of veterans and youngster, it’s no secret to the sophomore driver the competition will be tough. However, with drivers moving up and switching divisions, he also notes that the competition is wide-open heading into the year.
“(Andy) Kamrath and (Warren) Paxton – clearly they’re going to be the favourites,” he added. “I think outside of the top-two or three guys, I think it’ll be wide open.”
McGlashan feels with some more laps under his belt and a couple adjustments, he’ll be right there mixing it up with the front runners.
“From the times that we were running at the beginning of last year to what we were running end of the year, it’s not that far off,” he commented.
Last season, the youngster impressed many this year as he finished second in Mighty Mini points with three feature victories and 13 feature top-10s.
“It was pretty good,” he commented. “I wish I knew more about the rules at the beginning of the year than the end of the year and ran more Dash (for Cashes), and fixed the problem that we had quicker. If we had have done both, we could’ve walked away with it. But we had a good year.
“No regrets – we finished second and had a pile of fun.”
Now heading into his second year, hopes are high to continue the success, simply based on the lessons learned from last season. While he entered last year with no knowledge, this year he has the experience of working on the car and making adustments all last summer.
“We came down the first two or three weeks and didn’t know anything – didn’t set tire pressures, anything,” he said. “We didn’t know anything. We just unloaded it and I drove it as fast as I can. We learned so much stuff – it’s amazing.
“If we knew what learned by the end of the year at the beginning of the year, we probably would’ve won every week last year.”
