This year for the month of May leading to the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, Schmidt Peterson Motorsports decided to revamp garage set up for their cars at the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
SPM in the past used the standard way to park the cars in the garage area which is head first in the stalls. They are changing it up to give the fans an awesome view of the full side of the car by positioning the cars at a 90 degree angle.
They’ve also implemented a whole new resdesign with historic photos of IMS installed in the work area to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Indy 500.
“This place is all about tradition, but when you can do something that alters that, but respectfully, like we’ve done is awesome,” said James Hinchcliffe. “Having the cars perpendicular to the doors is going to give fans a much better view and they’ll be able to see a lot more than just stare at the gearbox all day.
“The way the garage was finished with the history of the Indy 500 from 1911 until today really tells the story of this place and is just awesome to see in person.”
Owner Sam Schmidt joked with IMS president Doug Boles when it was unveiled that he wasn’t attending to make it out to be a contest for the most attractive garage in Gasoline Alley,
“But there is a cash prize? Right?” Schmidt joked.
