On June 13, a new special paint scheme for the No. 88 car, driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr., was released by Axalta Racing and will be debuted during the Pure Michigan 400 race weekend in August at Michigan International Speedway.
The paint scheme will have the maize-and-blue colors to represent the University of Michigan. The reveal of the scheme was made at the Axalta manufacturing plant in Mt. Clemens Michigan and it was done to take pride in the fact that they were named General Motors Supplier of the Year for a second time.
Axalta, is a global company that focuses mainly on coatings as well as providing customers with the most colorful, beautiful, wonderful solutions, and has just recently gone into multi-faceted partnership so that they can support engineering and business students with their research as well as any other projects.
This is the third year Axalta will have a special paint job but will be the first to be raced on a two-mile oval track. Last year, Jeff Gordon raced a Pen State scheme in Pocono as well as a Texas A&M scheme at Texas Motor Speedway in 2014.
