The Sprint Cup Series took to the track for the first time at the revamped Kentucky Speedway on Thursday Afternoon in preparation for Saturday night’s Quaker State 400 Presented by Advance Auto Parts.
Carl Edwards led the way with a fast lap of 28.962 seconds (186.451 MPH). Edwards’ Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Kyle Busch was second just .042 seconds off the pace.
Martin Truex Jr. was third followed by Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson. Austin Dillon, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Chris Buescher, Chase Elliott, and Greg Biffle rounded out the top ten.
Notables included: Kyle Larson 11th, Kevin Harvick 13th, Ryan Newman 14th, Matt Kenseth 16th, Kurt Busch 17th, Joey Logano 18th, Ryan Blaney 19th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 21st, Brad Keselowski 23rd, Kasey Kahne 27th, and Tony Stewart 30th.
The Cup Series returns to the track tomorrow for two practice sessions starting at 11:00 A.M. ET as well as Coors Light pole qualifying.
