Multiple lengthy rain delays halted NASCAR XFINITY Series qualifying, but after several attempts to get the session in, Erik Jones put his No. 20 Reser’s Main Street Bistro Toyota on the pole at Bristol Motor Speedway.
Jones led his Joe Gibbs Racing teammates Kyle Busch and Daniel Suarez to claim pole. The spring Bristol race winner had a fast lap of 15.002 seconds, besting Busch by just over four one-hundredths of a second.
Behind Busch and Suarez in qualifying were a pair of Richard Childress Racing Chevrolets with rookie Brandon Jones tying his best ever starting position, and 2013 series champion Austin Dillon in fifth.
Darrell Wallace, Jr., Kyle Larson, Justin Allgaier, Regan Smith and Ty Dillon rounded out the top-10. Smith returns to the series for his only scheduled start this season driving the No. 88 Dale’s Pale Ale Chevrolet for JR Motorsports.
Timmy Hill will be the lone driver to miss tonight’s race.
XFINITY Series point leader Elliott Sadler will start from 15th on the grid.
The green flag for the Food City 300 from Bristol is expected to wave at 7:46 p.m. ET.
