It was announced on August 30 the Verizon IndyCar Championship celebration will be held on October 4, 2016. This year IndyCar has much to celebrate after selling out the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 presented by PennGrade Motor Oil back in May, something they haven’t done in many years. So it is fitting to have the end of season celebration in Indianapolis as well.
Drivers, team owners and fans will gather at Hilbert Circle Theatre located in downtown Indianapolis for the annual IndyCar Championship banquet which will honor the 2016 IndyCar Champion driver and team. It was held in San Francisco and Los Angeles the past three years and last took place in Indy in 2012.
The 2014 IndyCar Champion Will Power who is currently battling his teammate Simon Pagenaud for the Astro Cup says hosting the event in Indy this year is very appropriate.
“It’s always fitting, but more so this year, for the Verizon IndyCar Series Championship Celebration to be in Indianapolis,” Power stated. “It’s been a celebration there all year with the 100th Running of the Indy 500. I’m looking forward to it. It’s a great time of the year to be there.”
On the day of the event IndyCars as well as their transporters will be parked on the south side of Monument Circle. Award presenters, Motorsports celebrities as well as the drivers and owners will all make red carpet entries before the celebration which will begin at 5:30 pm ET. Fans will also be invited as well.
IndyCar Nation, which is the official fan community of the Verizon IndyCar Series will be providing 800 tickets to fans at no cost. IndyCar Nation Champion and Champion plus members can get their tickets at http://indycarnation.indycar.com/experiences. If any tickets remain they will become available to the general public beginning on September 14.
