Despite a rough start to the season, L.P. Dumoulin has been strong as of late and the trend continued at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park with a runner-up in the Can-Am 200. Starting fourth, Dumoulin ran up front throughout the entire Can-Am 200, leading six laps en route to his second place finish.
“We had a great run,” he said. “The team worked really hard all season to catch up on that car. We had problems with engines and brakes, but now we have more time to focus on set-up. So I think my crew chief Billy Burns and the whole team did a really good job bringing out more speed in the car.
“Now do we have the speed to keep up with Mr. Lacroix? Nope. Maybe another afternoon, but I can tell you that I tried different lines with the car to make it happy but whatever I was trying was two tenths off.”
For Dumoulin, it marks his fourth runner-up in the last five races and sixth straight top-eight finish after starting the year with four finishes outside of the top-10.
“We’re just going to keep building on the team as it’s a new team this year,” he said. “As a new team we faced a lot of challenge, but the season is like a race. You have to finish to strong. We have two races to go – two ovals – and our oval program is doing really well so we want to go win those two races.”
