Jeffrey Earnhardt is set to make his superspeedway debut in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this weekend, but it won’t be for the team he’s competed for in most of the races this season.
Earnhardt will join BK Racing and drive the No. 83 at Talladega Superspeedway with sponsorship from Starter. Matt DiBenedetto, who usually drives the No. 83, will drive the No. 93 in a third BK entry.
“I’m really excited to drive the No. 83 Starter Toyota Camry for the fall race at Talladega,” said Earnhardt. “It’s my first Cup Series race at Talladega, my first race with BK Racing, the first time anyone from our family competes in a Toyota and it’s the 25th anniversary of my grandfather’s victory at Talladega. Having this opportunity with an iconic American partner like Starter is an incredible honor. I can’t remember being so pumped up for a race and sincerely appreciate our friends at Starter for their support.”
For Earnhardt, it will mark a special weekend. He’ll race at the same track his grandfather, Dale Earnhardt, Sr., scored his 76th and final career victory at. Doug Richert, former crew chief for Dale Earnhardt, will serve as the 27 year old’s crew chief.
