Kevin Harvick was fastest during Friday’s opening practice for Sunday’s AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
Harvick ran a fast lap of 27.455 seconds (196.685 MPH). Carl Edwards was second with a speed of 196.278 MPH.
Matt Kenseth was third followed by Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney.
Chase Elliott, Kurt Busch, Kyle Larson, AJ Allmendinger, and Casey Mears rounded out the top ten.
Notables include: Martin Truex Jr. 11th, Denny Hamlin 15th, Kyle Busch 22nd, Brad Keselowski 24th, and Jimmie Johnson was 33rd. Busch wrecked in the early stages of Cup practice, resulting in having to go to a back-up car.
Cars will return to the track at 6:45 P.M. ET this evening for Sprint Cup Series qualifying.
