A bizarre and frightening crash involving Joey Logano, Danica Patrick and Aric Almirola will result in Almirola being kept for observation at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
The crash took place on Lap 199 of the Go Bowling 400 at Kansas Speedway when Logano racing alongside Patrick swerved into the No. 10 car following a brake rotor failure. Logano and Patrick were sent hard into the wall, and Almirola with little time to react from the crash, piled in. The rear-end of Almirola’s car was sent into the air, and the car jolted back down onto the racing surface. The crash severely damaged Almirola’s rear-end housing, and made for a hard landing.
Both Patrick and Logano were able to quickly climb out of their cars, but Almirola was not. He put the window net down, but reportedly complained of severe back pain and was unable to climb from his car. After more than 20 minutes of the medical team cutting the roof off of the No. 43 car to get him out, Almirola was finally extracted from the car. The medical crew placed Almirola onto a backboard and then a stretcher before loading him into the ambulance.
A current update on Almirola’s condition is not yet known, butĀ OnPitRoad.comĀ will follow this story and give further updates as soon as they become available.
