Chip Ganassi Racing announced on Friday that they would be ceasing operations of their Xfinity program. Citing lack of sponsorship, the closure will be effective immediately. The move will end the No. 42 team that has become a staple in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and will leave newly signed up-and-comer Ross Chastain scrambling for a ride in the 2019 season.
It was announced on December 20, 2018 that long time Ganassi sponsor DC Solar has its offices raided by the FBI.
“Running a car without proper funding is difficult to do,” said team owner Chip Ganassi. The statement leaves room for interpretation that the closure of the team could be a result of the DC Solar legal issues.
This announcement comes on the heels of Roush-Fenway Racing’s announcement that they too would be closing the doors on their Xfinity program.
Hey Mike:
Great shot of mine of the #42 @ Daytona this past July winning the Xfinity race if you want to swap out the current Getty image attached to your story re Ganassi (talk about going from penthouse to outhouse).
