Acura Team Penske driver Dane Cameron will lead the field to the green flag on Saturday morning for the opening of the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring after winning the pole.
It was Cameron’s third career IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship pole, and first of the season. His fast lap of 1:45.865 seconds allowed him to beat Tristan Nunez and the Mazda Team Joest team. Cameron’s Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves qualified his his No. 7 Acura in the third position overall.
Meanwhile, Matthew McMurray in his PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA earned the pole in the small, two-car LMP2 class ahead of Kyle Masson in the No. 38 for Performance Tech Motorsports.
The GTLM pole was claimed by Patrick Pilet in the No. 911 Porsche GT Team Porsche 911 RSR with a time of 1:55.899 seconds. Pilet’s car earned the pole at the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona with Nick Tandy behind the wheel where his team finished the race fifth in class. Antonio Garcia in the No. 3 Corvette C7.R qualified second.
Earning the pole in the GT Daytona category was Trent Hindman for Meyer Shank Racing in the Acura, making Acura a top contender for the weekend by winning the pole in two classes. Hindman and his co-drivers Mario Farnbacher and Justin Marks will start from the top spot with the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 driven by Robby Foley starting alongside.
