Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s position as the premier motorsports facility in the world was further solidified with its third consecutive selection as Speedway Motorsports’ Speedway of the Year.
LVMS, which hosts more than 1,400 event days a year, is the only winner in the three-year history of the award. The announcement was made by Speedway Motorsports Inc. President Marcus Smith.
“This award is all about the employees who work tirelessly and take great pride in what we do here at Las Vegas Motor Speedway,” said Chris Powell, LVMS president. “I’m thrilled for our staff. This has been a remarkable year at LVMS with successful racing events and track-rental business. We have eight fantastic facilities within the SMI family, and to be selected as the top-performing speedway out of that group for a third straight year has excited everyone on our staff.”
In 2014, LVMS again hosted many racing events, including the annual NASCAR Weekend, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race and two NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series national events. The Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) returned for the third consecutive year and featured record crowds. The speedway also buttressed its reputation as one of the world’s most diverse facilities by hosting the Red Bull Air Race World Championship.
“The 2014 season was a special one for us here at the speedway,” Powell said. “On any given day there can be as many as eight or 10 different events going on. As we look ahead to 2015, we’ll continue to stage NASCAR and other premier racing series as well as several ‘non-traditional’ events, including EDC and the Red Bull Air Race. Meanwhile, we’ll continue to explore new avenues that help maximize the use of our world-class venue.” – See more at: http://www.lvms.com/media/news/lvms-receives-third-straight-smi-speedway-year-award.html#sthash.ISamcDgT.dpuf
