As part of the Short Track Night of Champions at the Motorama Custom Car and Motorsports Show, three of the champions from Flamboro Speedway were honored.
Brad Collison had a solid year in the Thunder Car division en route to picking up the championship for London Recreational Racing.
“There’s lots of great cars there,” he commented. “Everybody is competitive; there are eight to 10 cars that could win any given night.”
Now heading into the new season, Collison expects the landscape to be a little different to the rule changes as “they have given a bit to the metric cars”. He will return to the division in 2015, co-driving a thunder car with Late Model standout Shawn Chenoweth en route for a possible second championship in a row. He will also have some new competition, as his son Justin will be running the Chevelle full year.
Meanwhile, Collison’s teammate Russ Aicken would take home the championship in the Mini Stock division, edging Mike Holmes for the championship. “I’m here, he’s not, so……” was how Aicken summed it up as their battle came down to the late stages of the season. Two weeks left in the yaer, Aicken was 28 points back and was able to catch Holmes for the title.
Going into 2015, Aicken is building a brand new Mini Stock – a Chevrolet Colbalt.
“A guy bought the old one and is going to run it at Flamboro – wish him luck,” Aicken commented. “I don’t think it’s all car, a lot of it is driver.”
As to whether they’ll be another year of battling between Aicken and Holmes, that won’t be the case as Holmes will not return this year.
“He had a big wreck at Frostfest and got his noodle a little screwed up so I think he’s going to pack it in and take up knitting, I think,” Aicken shared.”
Bill Pearsall would take home the Pro 4 Modified Championship, with Deanna on hand to accept on his behalf. Deanna shared that Pearsall will return to the modified ranks in 2015, as well running a pro late model at Flamboro Speedway.
“He’s in California and getting in shape to come back here and take another championship,” she commented.
