MOORESVILLE, N.C. (May 12, 2015) – Despite being a few laps shy to go the distance on fuel, Justin Boston still recorded his best career finish of seventh last Friday at Kansas Speedway. It marked the second-consecutive top-10 finish for the rookie and helped him gain another five positions in the driver championship point standings. Over the last two races, Boston has gained 10 spots, moving from 18th all the way up to eighth. Now with the same Tundra he raced last weekend at Kansas, he plans to keep the momentum going at Charlotte.
Although Boston has never raced at Charlotte, he was able to participate in a rookie test at the 1.5-mile oval in early February. The test provided valuable seat time to help him not only become more familiar with the track itself, but also the Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) Tundras since the test occurred before the season started. He won’t be the only rookie making his first start at Charlotte, as his KBM teammates Erik Jones and Matt Tifft will also be first-time contenders at the track.
KBM drivers have collected four wins, two poles, 286 laps led, five top-five and five top-10 finishes resulting in an average finish of 12.1 across 10 starts at Charlotte. Owner-driver Kyle Busch has collected all four of the team’s wins at the 1.5-mile oval, including victories the last two seasons.
Boston’s Tundra will be sporting new colors this week as ROK Mobile has come on board for the Charlotte race. ROK Mobile, co-founded by entrepreneursJohn Paul DeJoria (Patron Tequila and Paul Mitchell) and JonathanKendrick (British technology pioneer), is a prepaid, contract-free mobile and music service that offers unlimited talk, text, data and streaming music for a monthly cost of $49.99. There are no activation fees, no hiddencosts. With a music catalogue of over 20 million tracks, downloadable playlists, incredible personalization filters and curated playlists, ROK Music rivals all other streaming musicservices and is included free with a ROK Mobile account.
Justin Boston, Driver of the No. 54 NCWTS ROK Mobile Tundra:
What did you learn at Kansas last weekend that will apply to Charlotte?
“There are a couple of things I learned. Those tracks are both fast mile-and-a-halfs, so it was nice to get a chance to be on a similar track the week before. Running in the top 10 most of the race was a great momentum builder for us. We’re making pretty big improvements every week and as long as we keep doing that we will be in contention to win races soon.”
What were some of the things you worked on when you tested at Charlotte earlier this year?
“Getting comfortable in the truck was the biggest thing when we tested. I feel a lot more comfortable knowing what we need to do to go faster when we unload this weekend.”
What is your goal for Charlotte coming off two consecutive top-10 finishes?
“I really want to run in the top five all day, that would be great for our team. I also want to get our new sponsor ROK Mobile as much exposure as we can and running in the top five all night would certainly accomplish that.”
Shannon Rursch, Crew Chief of the No. 54 NCWTS ROK Mobile Toyota Tundra:
Talk about why you opted to bring the same Tundra you raced at Kansas to Charlotte:
“The 54 ROK Mobile team is bringing the same Tundra to Charlotte that we raced in Kansas. The truck reacted very well to the adjustments we made to it throughout the course of the race in Kansas, so it was fitting that the 54 team bring our latest truck to the race at Charlotte. We are trending in the right direction if you look back at our finishes starting with Daytona. We have improved our finishing position every race and we continue to improve every time we go to the race track.”

The Rursch Report:
Shannon Rursch will call the shots for Justin Boston’s rookie campaign in the Truck Series in 2015. The Iowa native may be new to KBM, but is no stranger to sitting atop the pit box. Rursch comes to KBM from Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM), where he most recently served as crew chief for the No. 31 team in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In addition to leading the XFINITY Series team in 2014, he collected three top-10 finishes in four starts as crew chief for TSM in select Truck Series events last season.
Rursch has one top-15 finish as a crew chief in the XFINITY Series at Charlotte, which came last fall when Dylan Kwasniewski finished 14th.
