Each day of the week, the column will highlight a division, highlighting five drivers and mentioning things that you should know going into the next week of racing.
Davey Terry made his 2015 debut at Sunset Speedway this past weekend, and he did it in style. The car may not have had a number or any sponsors listed on it, but the fans knew it was Terry based on the familiar green. He would win his second heat, before running up front throughout the 30-lap feature en route to a fourth place finish.
The success by Terry isn’t much of a surprise as Terry has always been good in a modified. In the three seasons of modified competition to date, he has finished in the top-five in points each season. Last season, Terry posted a third and a second on the 1/3 mile at the end of June. The only thing missing from his resume – a feature victory. Perhaps this year will be the magic ticket.
Brad Pearsall also made his 2015 debut on Saturday night, and he also had success as he finished third on the podium behind Gary McLean and Cory Horner. Pearsall has ran a limited amount of OSCAAR races in his career, focusing on the Ontario Modified Racing Series Tour, and with each start has proven to have a fast car capable of a top-five finish. If he continues to run more events this year, he could score that first OSCAAR victory.
Ryan Dick continues to get stronger with each modified start, and it shows with each of his finishes. After posting a ninth place finish in the Hoosier Spring Velocity season opener, he bounced back to post a solid fifth place finish on Saturday night. If he can keep the progress going, he could become a constant fixture in the top-five and perhaps challenge for podium finishes in the second half of the season.
Dan Price hasn’t had the start to the season that he would’ve hoped for. The Peterborough-based driver finished 13th in the season opener, and was hoping to come out of event #2 with a solid finish. It wouldn’t happen, though, as an unfortunate incident mid-race with Chris Milwain took him out of contention. Look for Price to try and bounce back with a top-10 finish at the Rick Woolner Memorial.
Dean Scott has been a fixture on the tour from the beginning, and has constantly tried to get better as a driver. On Saturday night, things just didn’t go his way as three separate spins during his heat events resulted in an early end to the night. Hopefully Scott can find the set-up that he needs and have some fun success.
