It goes without saying that each season at any track is memorable for it’s own reasons as there’s things that will always stand out in the mind of each driver, crew member, official and fan. Sometimes people will share the same moments, and sometimes people won’t. Regardless, there are always reasons to remember a year of racing.
Earlier this month, four of those memorable moments were shared, which can be read by clicking here. Though with that in mind, here are some other moments that could be included.
Fan Submitted Memory: Photo Finish with Brandon McFerran and Danny Benedict
Sometimes you get features where a single driver dominates. Other times, the fans are treated to a show among the leaders of the field. May 23rd is one of those features that the fans got a treat.

Miles Tyson would lead the early laps till Danny Benedict was able to grab the advantage at lap 17 on the restart. Benedict looked to have a win in hand, when the caution would come out to set up a late race restart. The restart would see a two lap battle between Benedict and Brandon McFerran, which would result in Benedict grabbing the victory by a slim advantage at the line. Eric Yorke Returns to Victory Lane
When it comes to the Mini Stock division, a lot of focus ends up on about five drivers, when in reality there are about eight to 10 that could win on any given night. For some, Eric Yorke was a surprise feature winner on July 25.
Yorke started off the night in victory lane, scoring the victory in his heat and in the Dash for Cash. He then kept the positive momentum going, drawing the pole for the feature. Come feature time, Yorke would put the No. 51 Can-Alignment Motorsports, Milton Napa Auto Parts, J&D Tire, Solex Steel, McKeown Collision, Partimer Signs, Ancaster Embroidery, Country Girl Designs and Skytec Rentals Nissan into the lead off of the pole ahead of Justin Holmes and Doug Butler. He would then lead all the way to the first caution at lap 15. The second half of the feature would see a pair of back-to-back restarts, in which Yorke aced as he held on to the lead ahead of the field. He then led the rest of the way en route to scoring the victory.
While it was a surprise victory for some, it honestly isn’t the biggest surprise of the season. Yorke is a past division champion, and had scored four top-10s prior to the victory.
Terry Woodley’s Runner-Up Finish
“This is just totally unbelievable,” he commented. “I’m just proof that the sun shines on a dog’s ass every once and awhile. Every Saturday night I come out here I run seventh, eighth – I don’t know what the deal was today but she was hooked up.”
While the focus remained on those battling for the win each week, there was always a driver that managed to make his way into the top-10 on a weekly basis for a top-10. After all, he completed the season with 14 straight top-10 finishes.
One of the biggest, though, was at the Velocity 250. Woodley quietly kept himself in the top-five throughout all 35 laps to be able to move up in the final laps for a second place finish. For Woodley, it marks his best career finish, following a career best fifth in the 2014 edition of the Velocity 250.
Woodley has continued to improve each season, consistently keeping himself near the front of the field. Perhaps a first victory could be the ticket in 2016.
Butler’s Championship Save/Slide
When it all comes down to the marbles, sometimes you have to do extraordinary things. As I close out the second part of the mini stock memorable moments, let us remember the save by Doug Butler on championship night so he could keep his championship hopes in check.
Beyond the moments thus far, there are certainly many more that I could’ve talked about. So please do comment with your favourite memorable moments from the season. What is something that perhaps has slipped my mind that you can’t seem to forget?
