(Mooresville, N.C.) 2014 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards championship team, Mason Mitchell Motorsports (MMM) has tabbed Canadian racer, Cole Powell to drive the No. 78 Chevrolet for the Lucas Oil 200 at the Daytona International Speedway (DIS). Powell will receive support from longtime supporters Tricar and Copps Buildall.
“I’m thrilled we could get this deal done with MMM,” Powell stated. “Even though I have raced Daytona in the past, every time we race here it’s like seeing the place for the very first time all over again. I am just in shock that I am fortunate enough to be able to come race on such a famous track and race door to door with 40 other drivers.”
“A win at Daytona would honestly be the best thing that could happen to me as a driver. A victory at Daytona might open more doors for myself to compete in more races and maybe even land a full time ride which would be a dream come true.”
Powell will look to make his third Daytona ARCA start and his fourth start at a restrictor plate track in the 80 lap event. Powell’s best finish came last season at Talladega where he earned a podium finish by finishing 3rd.
MMM had a successful test session last month at Daytona capturing the top-four positions overall.
“I am really glad that we were able to sign Cole for our Daytona driver lineup,” driver and owner Mason Mitchell described. “Cole and I have talked in the past about him driving for us. He has a solid background on restrictor plate tracks and almost won Talladega last spring.”
“we have prepared two solid racecars for both of our drivers and from our test results I see no reason why we can’t finish 1-2 in the race.”
In their second year as a team in ARCA MMM captured three wins (Winchester, Iowa and Kansas) with two different drivers (Austin Wayne Self & Mason Mitchell).
In two years in the Series MMM’s earned four wins, 22 top-five finishes, 35 top-10s, five Menards pole awards along with capturing the 2014 ARCA championship.
The 53 annual Lucas Oil 200 at the Daytona International Speedway is set for Saturday February 13th. The race will be live on Fox Sports 1 beginning at 4:00 p.m. EST. ARCAracing.com will also provide live timing and scoring for all on-track sessions throughout the week.
