First Practice
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – Championship contender and defending 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Johnny Sauter was fastest in first practice at Homestead Miami Speedway on Friday. Sauter had a best lap time of 32.023 seconds. GMS Racing teammate Kaz Grala finished second followed by Christopher Bell, Noah Gragson and Ben Rhodes.
The worst of the championship four drivers was Matt Crafton, who finished the first session 13th on the speed charts. Crafton was more than half a second slower than Sauter.
Only two drivers turned more than 10 laps in first practice, those two being Kyle Busch Motorsports teammates Christopher Bell and Myatt Snider. Bell was the only playoff driver to turn more than 10 laps consecutively in the session.
28 of the 32 turned a lap in this session, There was an 8.452 second gap between first and 28th. Snider turned the most laps in the session at 35 while Chris Windom only turned one lap in the session.
Final Practice
HOMESTEAD, Fla. – John Hunter Nemechek was fastest in final practice for tonight’s Ford EcoBoost 200. Nemechek turned a best lap time of 32.680 seconds. Grant Enfinger finished second followed by Grala, Gragson and Bell.
The worst of the championship four drivers was Sauter, who finished 14th in the session after leading the way earlier in the morning. Sauter was .910 seconds off of first place.
Justin Haley had the best 10-consecutive lap average with an average speed of 159.992 MPH. Chase Briscoe was second followed by Snider, Austin Cindric and Regan Smith.
Much like the first session, only 28 trucks turned a lap in the session. Trying to make up ground, Sauter ran the most laps of the session at 31. Jennifer Jo Cobb only completed one lap.
