Roush-Fenway Racing announced on Wednesday that Ross Chastain will fill-in for Ryan Newman in the No. 6 Ford Mustang at Las Vegas.
Newman, who is recovering from injuries sustained in a horrific last lap crash in the Daytona 500 on Monday, was released from the Halifax Medical center on Wednesday afternoon.
“First and foremost, our focus remains with Ryan and his family as he continues to recover,” said Roush Fenway president Steve Newmark. “We also want to express our sincere gratitude to all of those who have offered support and taken the time to send their thoughts and prayers to Ryan, his family and everyone at Roush Fenway Racing”
Chastain has 72 NASCAR Cup Series starts scoring only one top-ten finish. Chastain performed well last season in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series scoring three wins and 19 top-ten finishes in 23 races. Chastain ultimately finished second in the series standings.
The team indicated there is currently no timetable to Newman’s return to the driver’s seat.
