Following his win at Texas Motor Speedway, Chase Elliott moves to one of the toughest tracks on the circuit in the form of Darlington Raceway.
“Obviously coming to Darlington is a different animal itself so just trying to get used to this and this race track and what it has to offer for the race time,” he commented. “Practicing in the day time was interesting and hopefully we have it where it needs to be tonight.”
So far, the 18-year-old is off to a good start as he qualified second for the race later tonight. Elliott says if he could pull off the win tonight, it’d be awesome.
“Honestly, from a fan standpoint, this is my favourite place to watch a race since I’ve been old enough to watch,” Elliott commented. “It always been exciting to watch and I feel like now, as it’s starting to wear and starting to make the tires wear, it throws other variables back into what this race is. I expect it to be an exciting race and hope to be around near the end contending for the win.”
Despite being a rookie, a lot of people are thinking that Elliott could do well tonight at Darlington Raceway with his calm demeanor that he gets from his father Bill Elliott.
“(Bill) is not excitable and I think that helps Chase a lot,” Earnhardt Jr. commented. “I think that has molded Chase into the person that he is. As Chase has grown up I think he has taken a lot of his father’s mental makeup and intuition and certain personality traits that have been a big help to Bill in his racing career. Just basically how calm Bill is and how much of a student to racing Bill was. I think that Chase really is very similar. He has just got a lot of talent.”
