Kyle Busch finds himself in unfamiliar place at Kansas – victory lane

For Kyle Busch, in the past, he hadn’t found the right path to victory lane at Kansas Speedway over the years as bad luck continued to lead to poor finishes. However, perhaps Busch went and saw the wizard as he dominated on his way to winning the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway on Friday night.

“I’m a winner at Kansas!” Busch exclaimed in Can’t say enough for everybody at KBM. They do such a great job for me and they’re a lot of fun to work with.”

Restarting in the second spot after a late race caution, Busch fell back a couple spots but was able to move himself to second and chase down Austin Dillon, passing him with 21 laps to go. Busch then drove away from the field and cruised to victory.

It marks Busch’s second victory of 2014 as he won the season opener at Daytona International Speedway, and his 37th career victory overall to date. For crew chief Eric Phillips, his 29th career victory as a crew chief gives him the most all-time.

Matt Crafton got by Dillon in the final 10 laps to finish second for his second top-10 finish of hte year as he takes over the points lead, eight points ahead of Timothy Peters and Ron Hornaday Jr.

Joey Logano looked to have one of the strongest trucks throughout the night, however made his green flag pit stop and then had a caution fly shortly after. Logano took the wave-around and was able to make his way back up to third in the final 42 laps of the race.

Austin Dillon finished fourth, followed by Tayler Malsam. Malsalm is scheduled to run a partial schedule this year for Turner-Scott Motorsports.

Jeb Burton finished sixth and it was announced, per Ray Dunlap, that ThorSport Racing will be announcing a sponsor for Burton in hte coming weeks so that way the second-generation driver can run the full schedule this season. German Quiroga drove his back-up truck to finish seventh, followed by Ron Hornaday, Joe Nemechek and rookie Mason Mingus.

While it marked a successful night for some, it didn’t work out that way for others as they found themselves at the wrong end as yellow fever was present on Friday night.

The first caution of the race flew on lap one when Ron Hornaday got loose, causing him to back up to Brennan Newberry. Newberry then got into Hornaday, causing Hornaday to get up into Peters. The pair slid up towards the wall while Spencer Gallagher and Quiroga collided behind them.

Brian Ickler brought out the second caution when he made heavy contact with the turn four wall, as Todd Shaffer spun in turn two. Shaffer then spun at lap 34 for the third caution.

Coming off his top 10 finish at Daytona in February, Jimmy Weller would back his truck into the wall at lap 50 for the fourth caution. Townley followed suit as he did the same thing at lap 56. Behind Townley, Hornaday went for a spin with Ben Kennedy getting into Hornaday.

Brennan Newberry brought out the sixth caution as he had a tire blow on lap 70, and then repeated the process at lap 77.

Ryan Blaney looked to have a truck that could’ve contended for the win, but he got loose while racing Logano for the lead at lap 85 and spun up towards the wall. Blaney had it saved when he was hit by Tyler Young and Johnny Sauter. Young and Sauter got together before getting into Blaney as Darrell Wallace Jr. got into Young

“We were just racing hard with Joey and we kept it out of the fence and I don’t know they got bottled up there behind me destroyed the truck,” Blaney commented. “He was just too far down on my door there and got me down on the apron and had it saved before they got in there. Hopefully we can do better tomorrow night in our Cup debut.”

The final caution came out with 42 laps to go when Bryan Silas backed it into the wall.

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns next weekend as they will head to Charlotte Motor Speedway.
