Concord, NC (May 24, 2014)- Eric McClure and the No. 14 Hefty®/Reynolds Wrap® team posted a 29th-place finish in today’s History 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway after qualifying 34th. With this finish the TriStar Motorsports team advanced one position to 24th in NASCAR Owner Standings.
Early in the race McClure battled loose-handling conditions. He brought the Hefty® Ultimate™ Camry to pit road for four tires with an air-pressure adjustment, fuel, and a track-bar adjustment during the lap 23 caution. Once the stop was complete, the Virginia driver was scored in the 35th position for the lap 28 restart.
As the race continued, the car’s handling improved on entry but it became way too tight in the center and on exit of the turns. Running in the 32nd position, McClure brought the car to the attention of the crew on lap 79 during a round of routine green flag pit stops. The team changed four tires, added fuel, and made another round of chassis adjustments in hopes of pacifying the car’s ill-handling characteristics. After all cars had pitted, McClure was scored in the 32nd position.
Over the next twenty laps, the car’s handling improved. This not only allowed McClure to run some of his fastest laps of the race but also advance his position in the running order. By the halfway point, he was up to the 30th spot despite his continuous battle with an ill-handling car.
During the final forty laps, the car once again showed slight improvement in its drivability, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the issues from earlier in the race. On the final lap, however, McClure was able to advance one position to finish the History 300 in the 29th position.
