Dale Shaw Picks Up Impressive Late Model Victory At Flamboro

By Randy Spencer – A great night for racing at Bennett Chevrolet Flamboro Speedway and there were five divisions ready to hit the track.

Double heats were on the card and heats win were as follows. Pure Stock heat 1 & 2 winner was Josh Shantz. Mini Stock heat wins by Hudson Nagy, Chad Corcoran, Jake Gilbert and Mike Holmes. Thunder Car heat wins went to Dave Bailey, Mark Burbridge and two by Shawn Chenoweth. Late Model heat wins went to Shawn Chenoweth and Dale Shaw. Brian Nanticoke picked up wins in both Pro 4 Modified heats.

After a brief intermission it was time for Feature racing. Derek Martin and Wayde Thorne sat on the pole for the 15 lap Pure Stock main event. Shawn Taylor led early but Josh Shantz proved to much and took the checkered flag and a perfect three for three night.

The 25 lap main event for the Mini Stocks was led onto the track by Hudson Nagy and Rick Robinson. It appears early on that two veterans are ready to put on a great show for the fans as #71 Russ Aicken and #13 Mike Holmes sit one-two in the point standings. At the start of the night, Aiken held a slim 6 point lead over Holmes. Holmes, last weeks feature winner, started 18th in the field, Aiken was 11th. Hudson Nagy, a promising rookie driver who won his heat earlier led the first five laps but Aiken made his way by to take the lead. By lap 18, the two were bumper to bumper and as Aiken led Holmes out of turn four, they got tangled and spun to the infield. Both cars had to take up position at the back of the pack. That put Scott Simmons in the lead followed closely by Chad Corcoran. Aiken and Holmes did their best to make it back to the front but had to settle for third and fourth respectively. Congratulationsto Scott Simmons on picking up his first feature win at Flamboro.

The Thunder Car feature hit the track for their 25 lap race with Mike Gilmour and Shawn Chenoweth up front. Chenoweth shot out to an early lead. The real battle was for second and third as Brad Collison and Mark Burbridge raced each other hard throughout. An exciting race as Chenoweth crossed the line first for his second feature win of the year in the Thunder Car division.

Bob Wood lined up against Rick Burbridge as the Grisdale Late Models took the green in their 25 lap feature. Wood led the first three laps but he couldn’t hold off a hard charging Dale Shaw who inherited the lead. Shaw won a heat early and was on fire in the feature. Shawn Chenoweth doing double duty in the Thunder Car and Late Model had another great race but he couldn’t get past Shaw who picked up his second career Late Model feature victory.

The final feature of the night was the 15 lap event for the Pro 4 Modifieds. Last years point champion Brian Nanticoke returned to his winning form earlier in the night picking up both qualifying heat wins. In the feature however, veteran Bill Pearsall led all 15 laps to pick up the feature win.

The Grisdale Late Models will be joined by the Klotz Auto Repair & Engine Machine Shop Mini Stocks, the Ponderosa Nature Resort Pure Stocks, the Ray’s Towing & Recovery Thunder Cars and the Ponderosa Nature Resort Pro 4 Modifieds. Pit gates open at 4pm, Grandstands at 5pm and green flag flies at 6:30 pm. Admission prices for the grandstands are as follows. Adult $14.60, Senior & Student $12.00, Children (12 and under) $3.00, Family Ticket (2 Adults and up to 4 children) $32.00. HST EXTRA.
